Little bit of brain food.

Just to let all my followers out there know what I've been up to. I'm still working on the fairytale stuff as i'm determin to make enough to make a calender. I've been working on commissions for other people and family members, pondering on ideas for indecisive people who can't decide if they want my work or not.

Amongst this tornado of things happening i've been trying to get orginised and various projects finished so that I can get back on track with what Im supposed to be doing.

..and on the side i'm still sketching out page layouts for my next kids book.

Preview of what's to come.

Thought I'd let you have a preview of the next kids book I'm working on. This one is more for 'baby babies' for the parents to read to their kids and for the kids to enjoy the rhymes and colours on the simple images. This is also the book I'm intending to sell to raise a little bit of money.

I seem to be drawing a lot of caricatures lately, some chi bi's and some face portraits. I think it's cause it's simple to do yet effective, also it's fun :) and it helps when I have a drawing block.

.Update.

Ok! so a quick update on what I've been up to since my last blog.
I watched the film Arthur and got really inspired to want to get my kids books published ( wonder why ) but anyway.

So the weeks after that i worked like crazy to get my Timmy book finished, then i spent 3 days after that researching in to kids book publishers that take on unsolicited manuscripts.

NEXT! I wrote a manuscript then posted 6 out to selected publishers. So far i have had three back, one saying they love my story but the illustrations don't fit with there work, and two saying thanx but no thanx good luck with your work.

This alone is awesome because publishers rarely even look at unsolicited maunscripts :) and getting the rejection letters back only makes me want to work harder at getting my work published. So now I'm plodding on!

..oh and in the mean time, I painted this :D

Continuing with chi-bi's and i'm working on more :) it's fun and they look cool. can you guess who these two drawings are?

.It.Starts.

It started with an experiment of drawing myself and it looked good, so I drew some one else..that looked good too. It seems the Alice picture has been put on hold for a while as I've had to work on images for booklet/mini exhibition called What Hull Means To Me. Here is the second image for that, the first image I didn't like much but I like this one a bit more.

..and to continue with the chibi drawings here is my latest one. They are fun to draw and simple enough to colour and i think they look cool :)

Whilst working on an Alice image, I suddenly had the urge to draw a chibi so I did and not just and chibi newton faulkner!

.Race.For.Life.

This year I have decided to once again take part in the Race For Life. I will be walking it (because I haven't been training this year) with my sister and mum, we will all be wearing feather boa's, fairy wings and face paint. Finishing off my last sock monster ( for now ) and wokring on ideas for a FireFox compertition, this is my fist idea going back to my messy paint look with outlines, what do ya'll think so far?

this one took a day to make then I started on an octopuss and with everything being hand sewn it's taking it's toll with it's eight legs :) Below is the monkey in all it's glory.

.Mini.Project.

Setting myself project is one thing. Sticking to it is a whole new story!

So I've set myself a project which I will be forced to stick to as it will be in my face everyday and inexcusable. I've hand made another mini sketch book which I have labeled 'A Doodle A Day' you get the idea of the project from the title. Starting from February 1st 2011 I will be doodling one thing a day in this book until it's complete, not matter how good or bad the doodle may be I will do it.

This book is only small so it won't seem like a big task every time I doodle, also it will keep me drawing everyday and possible lead to ideas for other drawings.

.Valentines.

Attack of the mushy pictures. As everyone know valentines day is coming up fast and val card designs are always good for selling. I'm put off by the very idea of the day because it is purely about profit....I am also taking advantage of this. So here are a few designs I will be printing on to cards to sell at The Art Box in Hull if any ones interested.

Characters based on musical instruments and types of music, this is Mr.Guitar and he's strumming away.

I'm going to experiment with a digitally colouring technique and a hand painted version, depending on which looks best i will use that coloring technique for the next image.

So! New year has started!!! and i have officially created a new folder for my 2011 art work the image below is the first I have created this year.

Only a small, simple image but it was an experiment with some new watercolours and a new drawing book of hand made paper.

I hope this is the start to a newly found inspiration that could grow as the year progresses!

After a long time of no inspiration I decided to go back to the basics and have another go at simple pencil drawings, here are a few I've done recently.

Recently art based projects have been very slow and inspiration has been in short supply. Still I continue searching the net and the wide world for stuff that could inspire me, still I carry on doodling in hope that one extra special doodle may lead to something more.

I've been continuously plowing on with the huge 'people picture' that is forever growing more and more crowded, and my latest attempts at creative inductance is tattoo's. When at a total loss it's the one thing I always go back to and it sometimes gives me the push I need to get going with other creative stuff.
